Putnam Invades Greenville's Gumbo Nationals
Josh Putnam invaded Greenville (Miss.) Speedway on Friday night for the 16th annual Gumbo Nationals.
Thirty-one COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model competitors registered for battle at the 1/4-mile oval, and Josh began his outing by qualifying second fastest in time trials.
He backed up his qualifying effort with a heat race win, which positioned him third on the starting grid for the 30-lap feature. Racing in the Top 5 throughout the finale, he ultimately crossed the finish line in fourth behind Brian Rickman, J.C. Waller, and Hunter Rasdon.
On Saturday the feature winner's purse increased to $8,000. Thirty Super Late Models returned for action, and Josh qualified fastest in his time trial group with a 15.700-second lap.
Josh Putnam won his heat race to earn the second-starting spot for the feature. Unfortunately his night came to an early end after hard contact from another competitor on the 28th-circuit brought his night to a disappointing end in the 19th-position.
